Coaching, Bowls Big Weekend & the Bar
Dear Members,
Now that we are a month away from the start of our new outdoor season I would like to give you “heads up” on dates for two key events that your Bowls Committee are arranging during May.
Start of Coaching
Monday 6th May, from 6 pm
For all bowling members to refresh areas of their bowling technique and to address any aspect with coaches where additional support is sought.
If any member has friends or family who may fancy giving bowling a try please encourage them to come along on this evening – if possible a mention in advance to one of our coaches or myself will be helpful to ensue support is available.
Also to build on the success of last year our
Bowls Big Weekend event
Sunday 26th May between 10am – 4pm
A day to encourage many visitors to give bowls a go on our super green to experience a taste of the joys of bowling and where we might be able to welcome them again on our Monday coaching evenings.
To ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible, may I request your kind support on the day to spare whatever time you can to cover any of the following roles:
experienced bowling members to support our coaches on the green
receiving/directing visitors
serving complimentary refreshments (tea/coffee/cake/biscuits)
bar service from mid-day
manage a Tombola stall
There will be a list in the foyer with time slots for the day, please sign up if you able to offer support. It would be very much appreciated.
To add further interest on the day we are planning to hold a Tombola so we would very much appreciate receiving any prizes you are able to donate (from bottles to tins to toys!) with the proceeds going to local charity hence above request to help manage the sale of tickets.
Please contact me (details below) if you have any questions on any of the above otherwise I hope to see you at the pre-season get together on 22nd March.
Many thanks
John Buggins

Fancy a Drink?
If you fancy a drink after a game of bowls, we have a well stocked bar in the clubhouse run by bar volunteers. Helen is currently drawing up the rota of volunteer bar stewards for the forthcoming season but is a bit short of volunteers.
The club relies entirely on member volunteers to keep everything going. Every member is expected to volunteer at some time in some way, either on a cleaning team, the green team, as a bar steward or one of the many other jobs in the club. Full training will be given to any newcomers so please, if you would like to help with the bar, get in touch with Helen or myself as soon as possible.
The more members we have on the rota the fewer sessions everyone will have to do. Please remember the bar is an important social hub to members, old and new, and visitors alike. It also generates a large chunk of the club's revenue and helps to keep our annual subscriptions down.
