Club Landline Removed & 150 Years of Lawn Tennis

Club Landline Removed

The Club Landline has been removed and replaced with a mobile phone for emergency calls. The emergency mobile phone is located on a charging cradle on a table in the foyer and can be taken out onto the green if necessary so that an emergency call handler can speak to anyone dealing with an incident.

It is not intended to publicise the new phone number as a general way of contacting the club but If members do need to contact someone at the club and they don’t know their mobile number they can call 07395 283525.

However this is an unmanned phone and may not be answered if there is no one is around. Please don’t use this phone for outgoing calls other than emergencies.

150 Years of Lawn Tennis

Last Saturday I was invited to Leamington Tennis and Squash Club to join their celebration of 150 years of lawn tennis in Leamington. The club claims to be the “The First Lawn Tennis Club” and to justify their claim they have produced a book titled “Leamington’s Game” a history of lawn tennis in Leamington. In producing the book the author, Susan Hopcraft, carried out extensive research including visiting our club which in 1930 was set up as the Lillington Bowling and Tennis Club. She was able to look through the early minute books from 1930 to 1962 and has included various references to Lillington in the book including a short section on our club. Susan has kindly donated a copy of her book to our club and this will be kept in the trophy cabinet for anyone to look at. If you would like to borrow the book to take home to read can you please let me know so we can keep track of it.
